EMC Expands Satellite and Terrestrial Footprint in Developing Countries

The company’s customers will benefit from EMC’s unique capability of interoperability of their satellite and terrestrial network with MPLS quality.

KENYA – MAY 2010 - As part of a continuous growth of services, Emerging Markets Communications (EMC) announces the expansion of its MPLS hybrid satellite and terrestrial infrastructure. Operations continue to be fully managed by EMC personnel, bypassing all local infrastructure assuring high levels of security and availability.

Each EMC MPLS point of presence (PoP) is equipped with encrypted point to point fiber over wireless using the newest optical radio technologies. All EMC terrestrial MPLS PoP’s include an EMC in-country satellite gateway to backup all international terrestrial connectivity and to extend EMC’s terrestrial MPLS PoP to in-country or regional networks, via EMC’s powerful satellite network. Every site connected to the EMC terrestrial MPLS node is fully monitored and controlled on a 24/7 basis by the EMC Global Operations Center. Monitoring and control includes all radio equipment, customer router, video conferencing equipment, PBX and an EMC provided UPS. All sites connected to the EMC MPLS terrestrial or satellite infrastructure in cities with EMC PoP’s have a guaranteed SLA of 4 hours mean time to repair which is performed by an EMC local engineer under EMC’s Global ISO 9000 quality management system.

EMC’s new and existing customers will benefit from the unique capability of interoperability in their satellite and terrestrial network, while maintaining a meshed guaranteed MPLS quality of service for their video, voice, and intranet applications. The service is available from any remote office and can connect to regional Head Quarters in East Africa, West Africa, South Africa, UAE, Europe or the United States. EMC’s ability to maintain MPLS quality of services for all critical applications, regardless of how customers are connected or where their traffic terminates, is an indispensable feature that every IT manager values when designing an Enterprise and Carrier grade WAN. EMC customers can also benefit from EMC’s MyVideoLink™, MyEMCLink™ portal, and EMC FastEthernet™.
