EMC launches new dedicated DVB-S2 IP Trunking service in Africa
EMC responds to the demand in cost effective IP transit
capacity in Africa.
MIAMI, USA – JULY 2007 - Emerging Markets
Communications (EMC) is launching a new IP Trunking DVB-S2
platform service for the entire African continent. The inauguration
of the new service is scheduled for September 15, 2007.
Benefiting PTTs, ISPs, GSM operators and Carriers
operating in Africa, this new service supports internet and voice
trunking, with a guaranteed CIR (Committed Information Rate) and
an additional bursting capability over the whole shared outbound
carrier.
EMC will provide the service through its wholly-owned
teleport facility located in Raisting, Germany, using Intelsat
satellite capacity and EMC infrastructure comprising of a 32m
antenna, SDH Backbone and IP connectivity to more than 30 prime
IP providers. EMC will supply and finance all the remote equipment
in conjunction with financial institutions.
“EMC is continuously working on the optimization
of the capacity, technologies and processes that are involved
in satellite communications. By launching the dedicated DVB-S2
IP Trunking service, EMC is taking another step in the provision
of cost effective IP transit capacity in Africa”, says Abel
Avellan, President of EMC.
“With this new service, cost-effective access to the Internet Backbone will no longer be limited to big ISPs and PTTs, but to other smaller players considering that EMC customers can now buy as little as 4Mbps aggregate Up+Down traffic crossconnecting straightforward to Tier 1 IP-providers in Europe”, adds Mariano Spini, EMC Space Segment Manager.
EMC is committed to connecting and integrating the most remote and harsh places worldwide. The EMC IP Trunking DVB-S2 platform solution for Africa is an important contribution to this achievement.
