EMC supplies STM1 155Mbps service to the leading ISP in South Africa

Internet Solutions contracts EMC's end-to-end service to increase their IP capacity benefiting more than 25,000 ADSL users.

RAISTING, GERMANY - DECEMBER 2006 - Emerging Markets Communications (EMC) has been contracted to provide significant IP capacity via satellite to Internet Solutions.

Internet Solutions (IS) is South Africa 's leading Internet Service provider , offering services to approximately 80% of South Africa 's top 250 companies with over 4,500 valued customers. In addition, IS is owned by Dimension Data , the largest Cisco distributor outside the United States and a global multibillion dollar company.

EMC will provide a 155Mbps + 45Mbps link between EMC's Raisting Teleport and IS' earth stations in South Africa . With the rapidly growing internet usage in South Africa , these link s will quickly increase the IP capacity across Internet Solutions' network and allow them to satisfy their customers' demands.

EMC's Raisting Teleport, one of the three largest teleports worldwide, is equipped with 11 to 32 meter C, Ku, L, and X-band antennas, as well as 120,000 square feet of highly secure disaster recovery and business continuity infrastructure. With an onsite SDH PoP, IP Backbone and fiber access is achieved without a local loop.

IS' decision to work with EMC was driven by the flexibility of EMC's Raisting Teleport to use multiple satellite operators from a single location utilizing 32 meter antennas as well as EMC's leading cost competitiveness for satellite circuits ranging from E1s to STM1s .

Internet Solutions' CTO, Prenesh Padayachee comments: “Knowing the market for STM1s over satellite, EMC proved themselves to be the leader from a price and delivery perspective. We intend for this service to be the beginning of a long term partnership and to complement our ability to deliver IP services to our customers across South Africa .”

EMC's President Abel Avellan sums up, “We are proud to work on this project with the leading ISP in South Africa , serving such an interesting and growing market”.

EMC is part of the 2006 Top Teleport Operators Ranking

The World Teleport Association ranking lists EMC among “The Independent Top Twenty” and “The Fast Top Twenty” Teleport Operators.

MIAMI , USA - NOVEMBER 2006 - Emerging Markets Communications (EMC) is now part of the Top Teleport Operators of 2006 Ranking which was recently announced by World Teleport Association.

The Top Teleport Operator Rankings are based on surveys regarding the facilities, services and business results of teleport operators in many nations. World Teleport Association (WTA) , the leading association in teleport operations, marketing and management carries out these rankings.

EMC is listed in two out of three WTA rankings: The Independent Top Twenty Teleport Operators and The Fastest Growing Twenty Teleport Operators.

The Independent Top Twenty ranks companies according to their revenue from all satellite-related sources excluding those whose primary business is satellite fleet operations. The total revenues of the Independent Top Twenty exceed $1.6 billion, with individual companies ranging from nearly half a billion dollars to under $20 million.

The Fast Twenty ranks all teleport-operating companies based on year-over-year revenue growth in their most recent fiscal years. Revenues of the Fast Twenty are nearly $4.8 billion.

"Successful teleport operators are leading the charge of the satellite communications industry into valued-added services and into service-product bundling," said WTA Executive Director Robert Bell. "They are helping carriers, enterprises and government integrate satcom into global communications solutions. They operate in a wide and growing range of business sectors. The common denominator is that they look to their teleports as key platforms for value delivery”.

“We are very proud of this achievement as it is the result of EMC's full commitment with our customer's projects and their confidence in our capabilities, technology and staff. We will continue working hard to ensure that the satcom industry continues to grow”, concluded EMC President Abel Avellan.

RAISTING, GERMANY - JAN 2006 - Emerging Markets Communications Inc. (EMC) announced today the acquisition of an Earth Station Complex and Telehouse Facility in Germany, from Deutsche Telekom AG. The complex, located in Raisting, near Munich, includes 120,000 square feet of secure telehouse and data center facilities, and a large antenna complex composed of (four) 32m, (one) 28.5m, (one) 18m, (two) 13m and (seven) 11m antennas, to operate in all satellite bands: C, Ku, X, S, and L.

Herbert Pardula, EMC's CEO, commented that the location of the complex -in Central Europe near the Ammersee Lake in Bavaria, and surrounded by the Alps- is ideal for visibility of all AOR and IOR commercial and military satellites. From one single location, this geographical advantage allows EMC to effectively cover EMC customer demands in Eastern Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Central Asia, The Far East, the Caribbean, Latin America, and other relevant emerging markets in need of satellite connectivity and End-to-end services in hard to reach locations. Abel Avellan, EMC's COO, stated that the capability to offer End-to-end satellite services in C, Ku, X, S, and L band from virtually all satellites in orbit from a single location is not only unique, but also an excellent complement to EMC's teleport in the United Kingdom and support centers in Germany, Kazakhstan, Russia, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, the United States, Argentina, Kenya and West Africa.

Today, more and more customers are requesting solutions for disaster recovery and business continuity. This new EMC facility will not only strengthen EMC's value proposition for turnkey satellite services worldwide, but will also position the company to enter with a unique competitive advantage to the disaster recovery and business continuity in Europe and the United States, as these services are highly dependent on connectivity not vulnerable to natural or man created disasters.

The company announced that the facility will meet the most strict security standards worldwide by the first quarter of 2006.

EMC Organizes Advancements in Satellite Technology Seminar

AT&T, IOM, OSCE and Accenture participated with rich presentations aimed at highlighting the operational and financial benefits associated with satellite technology.

MIAMI, US - MAY 2005 - Emerging Markets Communications Inc. (EMC), a leading company in the provision of satellite communications networks and services, organized the Advancements in Satellite Technology Seminar that took place at the UN Palais des Nations, Geneva, Switzerland. Developed by EMC and AT&T, the seminar was held on May 12th with 113% of the attendance that had been confirmed, and articulated a budget-focused, fully managed solution for supporting both client-server applications and voice over a satellite link.

The program was designed to consider the operational and financial benefits related to the advancements in satellite technology. Some of the topics covered were: the differences between satellite technologies, key requirements for a satellite network to support mission critical applications, outsourcing and off-shoring in a managed global network, the role of logistics in the development of a global network, new developments in satellite technology.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM), Organizations for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and Accenture participated in this seminar with interesting presentations. As regards the Satisfaction Survey carried out by EMC, 100% attendants gave positive answers to the questions: "Did you find added value in the contents presented in the seminar?" and "Can you apply to your work any of what was presented today?"

EMC Supports IOM's Humanitarian Efforts

IOM's humanitarian commitment and EMC's logistic support at an emergency situation ensured a quick channelling of assistance tasks in the Tsunami-affected areas.

MIAMI, US - MAY 2005 - Emerging Markets Communications Inc. (EMC), a leading company in the provision of satellite communications services, and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the leading international organization working with migrants and governments to provide humane responses to migration challenges, have joined efforts to provide relief assistance in South Asia following the Tsunami disaster. Taking into account the urgency of the situation, they accomplished their mission in record time.

In December 2004, one of the worst natural disasters in the last 100 years stroke the world. As a consequence of an earthquake in the Indian Ocean, a tsunami swept across vast coastal areas in several countries of the region, killing hundreds of thousands of people, and destroying thousands of homes and means of livelihood. This tragedy generated an immediate response from the IOM, which needed communication infrastructure solutions to quickly set up in remote areas to connect to its corporate data and voice network.

The IOM was aware of EMC's successful track record with UN World Food Programme and others. And while industry standard installation lead times for satellite sites are between 60 and 90 days, EMC took the commitment to shorten the deadlines. EMC was already involved in providing links in the area to the UN WFP, and was able to switch some of its staff from Nairobi to help speed up the installation and other logistical processes to get the IOM site on line as soon as possible.

In that situation, a real milestone was achieved: From the first telephone conversation between David John, EMC's European Business Manager, and Bernardo Mariano, IOM's Chief ITS Information Technology and Communications, to the installation of the link, the process of providing connectivity and communications took 3 weeks, and further amendments to the service were then carried out over the next 4 weeks.

Nowadays, the IOM uses voice over IP and Internet connectivity provided by EMC, which allows it to offer logistical support in the form of transportation, medical assistance, shelters and civil military cooperation. The IOM has transported relief goods for several international and national donors, the International Committee of the Red Cross, UN agencies, international governmental organizations, national and international NGOs, and foreign military forces.

"For the first time, the IOM emergency site had reliable communication which made a huge difference to our operations. Our business users were all very happy with the solution implemented which greatly improved their ability to operate and deliver the required assistance to our beneficiaries. EMC speed and efficiency has positively impressed us," says Bernardo Mariano.

This process has highlighted EMC's key strengths in logistics and organisation and the resulting ability to respond quickly to an emergency situation. "This is due to the fact that our organisational infrastructure of people and offices is based in and around the more difficult areas of the world," explains David John. He also highlights the contribution made by AT&T, which provided the landline circuit connecting the EMC teleport in Redditch to Geneva, as well as the overall project management.

As an active member of the United Nations, the IOM ensures the cooperation of collective efforts aimed at meeting the needs of the most vulnerable. With offices and operations in every continent, it helps governments and the civil society through rapid humanitarian responses to sudden migration flows, post-emergency return and reintegration programmes, assistance to migrants on their way to new homes and lives, migration medical and public health programmes, etc.
